The Brainerd Lakes Area is home to dozens of big and small game, waterfowl and birds. In fact, this part of Minnesota is known as one of the nation’s blue ribbon hunting destinations.

The mixed hardwood and conifer forests are home to ruffed grouse, squirrel and deer while the expansive willow meadows and marshes provide excellent habitats for ducks and geese, black bear and rabbits.

Game farms and hunting preserves are a growing trend in the region, too. Many provide lodging and meals to round off your hunting experience. Visiting hunters are welcome to hunt on local, state and county public lands. Maps to these areas are available from state and county agency offices.

It is necessary to have an appropriate license to hunt in Minnesota, which are available at many retail outlets. There are also certain regulations on bag limits of game species and harvest methods.
