Most of the lakes in the Brainerd Lakes Area have a wide variety of sport fish species – that’s one of the best parts of fishing here. Some lakes, though, are especially good for one species or another. If you have a particular fish in mind, here is a brief guide to recommended lakes.

• Walleye – Mille Lacs, Pelican, Whitefish Chain, Gull Lake Chain, Round; Mississippi River
• Northern Pike – Gull Lake Chain, Whitefish Chain, North Long, Edward and Lower Mission
• Largemouth Bass – North Long, Bay, Upper Gull Lake Chain, Hardy and Hubert
• Crappies and Sunfish – South Long, Upper Mission, Upper Gull Lake Chain, Nokay, Hardy; Mississippi River
• Trout – Cuyuna Range Iron Ore Pits, Trout, Roosevelt
