Commercial transportation provides a vital commerce link in and out of the Brainerd Lakes Area. Through air, road and rail services, area businesses are able to stay connected with the entire world.

Air – The Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport offers a 6,500’ paved runway with instrumental landing systems and navigational aids. Commercial air service is provided by Mesaba/Northwest Airlines. Charter services and maintenance facilities are also available for personal aircraft. The airport is also currently benefiting from a major expansion – offering a second runway.

Road – Several major state highway systems converge in the Brainerd Lakes Area, providing easy access to and from the Twin Cities, Duluth, Fargo/Moorhead and many other smaller communities. All interstate highways, US highways and nearly all of the state highway systems in and around Brainerd/Baxter are 10-ton roads. County road seasonal load limits vary. Visit the MN Department of Transportation for the latest updates on central Minnesota road construction projects.

Common carrier service is provided by TCBX, Inc., Midwest Motor Express, GMW and Consolidated Freight Lines. Parcel Service is provided by Greyhound, Federal Express, United Parcel Service, Express Mail (USPS) and FedEx Ground (RPS).

Rail – The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation provides direct rail service daily. Amtrak service is also available out of Staples, about 30 minutes west of Brainerd.

In addition, the port of Duluth and access to the St. Lawrence Seaway is approximately two hours away.
