Available and appropriately priced housing that meets demographic needs is important to the economic vitality of the Lakes Area. In 1997, Community Partners Research, Inc., was hired by the Crow Wing County Housing Task Force to conduct a study of the housing needs and conditions in the cities in Crow Wing County. A 2002 update was prepared for the Brainerd Housing and Redevelopment Authority as a follow-up to that original Housing Study, and a subsequent update was completed in 2007 for many of the communities.

This study encompasses the area considered "the Brainerd Lakes Area", which is all of Crow Wing County and portions of Aitkin, Cass, Mille Lacs and Morrison Counties. The study illustrates demographic profiles, trends and current and future housing needs and is an outstanding tool for communities and developers.
