Manhattan Beach was founded sometime in the 1930's. The logging railroad ran through Manhattan Beach from Longville to Moonlight Bay. A delta was formed on the shores of Big Trout Lake for the log trains to cross, that created tons of white sand. They called it Manhattan Station. This was a watering and sanding stop for all the logging trains that came through.
This is where the name Manhattan Beach comes from.
