The town of Crosby was founded by George Crosby, a financier from Duluth, Minnesota. Mr. Crosby built the town with a plan of action. It did not develop as other mining towns did in a haphazard manner. He platted out streets, blocks and a downtown.
The town of Crosby was plotted on October 5, 1909. By 1914 the population had increased to 3,000 people. Crosby become the center of commerce for the Cuyuna Range...the trading center of Cuyuna territory.
The mining company built homes on Second and Third Streets in the northeast part of Crosby. They were one-bedroom bungalows on fifty foot lots. The streets were affectionately called "honeymoon row."
