Take-A-Kid Fishing this weekend in the Brainerd Lakes Area
I remember fishing as a kid with my dad and uncle on a lake east of Brainerd using a cane pole and catching panfish – with every drop of the line. It was a great experience and a great memory on the water with family.
Help a child understand how to fish – demonstrate how to bait the hook, talk about various lures and bait, explain how to cast or troll, display how to set the hook, show how to land a fish. Explain the different characteristics of fish species so children can identify a walleye from a northern. Illustrate how to be good stewards of our waters – check for aquatic invasive species and explain the importance of doing so. Also, explain fishing regulations and safe boating practices.
And just have fun. It’s important as well to step away from work and stress to spend time enjoying life – relaxing on the water, creating memories, appreciating the great outdoors in the Brainerd Lakes Area.
Good luck fishing! – Kathi Nagorski, Communications Director
